Underwater Camera

Now we are moving more into the realms of the more serious underwater photographer. The equipment we describe on this page is for deep sea diving rather than close to the surface snorkelling activites. The cameras on this page can be used at depths of 20 meters and more.

An Underwater Digital Camera is designed to be totally waterproof and so can be used at a depth of up to 60 metres and sometimes more. This type of purchase usually consists of a digital camera (with underwater and white balance settings as standard) and also an underwater housing or case that will then protect the camera when it is being used at depth. The advantage of this type of camera is that you have a standard compact digital camera that can be used at any social event. Once the underwater housing is fitted though you then have a deep water action sports camera ready to snap sharks – no pun intended – at depths of 40 metres to 60 meters.

Here are a number of popular underwater camera housings for the most common digital cameras on the market currently. The big names such as Canon & Fuji as as well as Nikon & Panasonic all produce underwater housings for their best digital camera range. We have recently purchased an Underwater Housing for the Excellent Panasonic Lumix DMC Tz range which  can be used with the Pansonic TZ6 T765 and TZ7 so we will try this unit very soon and update the site with our review.

Once you are up and running with your new camera then you will need some tips and information on how to take the best underwater photos so please visit our Underwater photography tips page.
